Volunteering

Smithers Curling is run purely by volunteers.

Contribute to the Club and your community by volunteering your time or expertise.

Volunteers also benefit from reduced League membership fees.

Here’s how you can help!

  • Barkeeping

Smithers Curling Club opens our bar during league nights, special events, and for event bookings that require bar service.

Members over the age of 19 with Serving it Right can help keep this key service available for members and the general public.

Tasks Includes: tracking and accepting payments, serving refreshments and alcohol, as well as closing the bar after service ends.

Fill out our contact form to get trained or schedule a shift.

  • On-Ice Instructors

They say the best way to learn is to teach! If you have a passion for sharing the sport of curling with others, then becoming an instructor is a great way to further your own curling development.

Adult Instruction: Provide on-ice instruction for adult groups or drop-ins during scheduled times. 5 years of curling experience recommended.

Junior Instruction: Provide on-ice instruction for school groups and/or junior curler programs. Previous instruction of adult curlers is recommended.

  • Cleaning and Maintenance

Smithers Curling Club is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the curling building. This means we need help with general cleaning tasks and overall building maintenance.

Some of the tasks we need help with include: Vacuuming, cleaning and stocking bathrooms, assisting with cleaning the ice.

    Responsible Member: Bob.

  • Ice Maintenance

Curling doesn’t start when the first rock is thrown. There is a lot of time and skill that goes into creating and maintaining curling ice.

If you are interested in participating in ice maintenance, we can get you started learning the necessary skills.

  • Social Media Content and Publicity

Without the support of the community, Smithers Curling Club wouldn’t exist. This means we need help getting the word out about our leagues, bonspiels and special events, and booking and rental availability.

Help out by creating social media content, capturing and sharing photos and videos, designing and putting up posters, and keeping the website up to date.
